According to Tietokone, the .eu TLD will become available for registrations this year. However, only trademark holders and public organisations are allowed to apply for domain names; private persons must wait until next year.

Now doesn't that sound a little bit odd? Who exactly says that large corporations (i.e. the only ones capable of defending their trademarks) are to have special privileges like this to common, limited resources?

If the trademark law protects domain names, then let it protect. But this kind of elevation of the basic rights of corporations above individuals can only be bad.
